It’s great to get away from the river of media that flows through my computer each day and spend face-to-face time with REALTORS®. That’s what I did today, visiting Norman, Okla., one of the stops on the Home Ownership Matters Bus tour.

2011 Oklahoma Association of REALTORS President Hope White, center, welcomed Alan Huffman, NAR's 2011 Regional Vice President for Region 9, left, and NAR's 2001 President Richard Mendenhall to the Oklahoma meeting.

Oklahoma REALTORS®, gathering in Norman for their state convention, have seen their share of foreclosures and short sales. But there’s been nothing akin to the doom and gloom covered in the national media daily. “Low unemployment,” “healthy sales,” “good year,” are some of the comments I heard from REALTORS® I spoke with today.

Also at the stop today were former NAR President Richard Mendenhall and NAR Regional Vice President Alan Huffman. Huffman and Mendenhall spoke to a gathering about NAR’s efforts to preserve the mortgage interest deduction and prevent rules that would force down payments out of reach for most buyers.
